Fall 2018 Semester Report

As spring semester is just around the corner us here at 626 would like to take a look back at all the amazing things we were able to accomplish over the previous semester.

Academics: We’ve had an awesome semester and haven’t lost our touch with our cardinal principle of sound learning either. We ended the semester with a 3.18 GPA which is up 0.2 from Spring 2018. We plan to keep climbing to reach new heights and become one of the leaders on campus and in all of greek life.

IM sports: We also had a great year for IM sports. Our basketball team dominated the floor reaching all the way to the Final Four. We’ve got a great group of talented guys who are sure to bring home some hardware in the next couple of years. Our football team had a fantastic team as well. Unfortunately, we lost in the second round of the playoffs. But just like basketball, we’ve got a lot of young talent and high hopes for seasons to come.

Phikeia: We had a great recruitment semester. We initiated 16 new brothers into the bond. And are shooting for a strong class in the spring, This new group of guys brings our total to 68 active brothers.

Philanthropy: We had a lot of really fantastic philanthropy events this semester too. We kicked, or punched, off the year with “Fight Night”. We partnered with Pike, Sigma Pi, and the Aethon Society. Together we raised $14,000 for the “Help a Willing Kid Foundation”. This organization is a local non-profit that works with underprivileged kids in the greater Lansing area.

Our second philanthropy event is our annual Lumberjanes. This year was one for the books! We raised nearly $2,000 for ALS research. We broke every previous year's record: including the number of participants and spectators, t-shirts sold, and money raised for ALS research.

Community service: For our community service event we partnered with the East Lansing fire department for “Fire Day” to give a free community demonstration and tips about fire safety at 626. It was a huge success and we can’t wait to do it again next year.

Social: Thinking big was something that was echoed a lot when planning our year-long activities. Our big date party was when we went to the windy city for semi-formal. We were fortunate enough to rent a yacht and cruise out of Chicago harbor and through the beautiful Chicago skyline. It was a fantastic time!

E-board: We also recently elected a new e-board which will be leading us into the new year. It’s a talented group of young men who are dedicated to protecting the bond and the names who have signed before and those to sign after, and the values that this organization holds most dear. We know they will do a sensational job.

We’re very proud of how the semester wrapped up and are looking forward to an even better spring.

Yours in the Bond,

Jack Holme
